LECTURE NOTES
Discuss the possibility of having the engine on a single-
engine aircraft start to flameout right at lift-off, the plane
becoming airborne just as the engine begins to roll
back. Then, the pilot must decide whether it is better to
eject (if so equipped), or place the aircraft back onto the
runway/dirt in a flamed-out condition. In general terms
discuss this condition regarding both the T-45A/C and
other aircraft types. Discuss the need to maintain
power for flight and directional control (hydraulic,
electric, and/or mechanical). Also, discuss fire/
explosion potential, the landing gear hydraulic pressure
and down-lock condition/design, weather
considerations, potential landing obstacles, available
departure-end and approach-end arresting systems,
etc.
