Night Familiarization Flight Procedures

180-degree position
(1) Roll into 27-30 degrees AOB and
adjust power and nose attitude
slightly to set up a 200-300 fpm
rate of descent
(2) Maintain optimum AOA
(3) Fly an instrument turn off the
180-perch
COMMON ERRORS: Angling into
or away from 180-degree position.
COMMON ERROR: Descending
too early or too late.
COMMON ERROR: Not
maintaining optimum AOA.
COMMON ERROR: Flying with
too much or too little AOB off the
180-degree.
COMMON ERROR: Descending
at an excessive rate.

90-degree position
(1) Maintain on-speed and increase
rate of descent to 500 fpm
(2) Fly through 450 ft AGL with aircraft
in proper position so as not to
overshoot or undershoot extended
runway centerline
(3) Adjust AOB as necessary to roll
wings level in the groove on
centerline
COMMON ERROR: Being too low
at the 90-degree position.
