Familiarization Flight Procedures
NOTE: A low ball should never be ac-
cepted. Flying a low ball can result in an
early touchdown and the possibility of
hitting the ramp when landing on the ship.
If the ball goes low, an immediate correc-
tion is required.
3.
Fast and on-glideslope: reduce power. As
aircraft decelerates, raise nose attitude to
maintain centered ball. Approaching opti-
mum AOA, readjust power and attitude as
necessary to maintain glideslope and AOA.
Reduce power and readjust nose slightly
4.
Slow and on-glideslope: add power. As
aircraft accelerates, lower nose attitude to
maintain centered ball until optimum AOA is
reached. Then readjust power and attitude
as necessary to maintain glideslope and
AOA
5.
Slightly fast and on-glideslope: reduce
power as appropriate and raise nose atti-
tude, as required, to maintain centered ball.
As aircraft decelerates and approaches
optimum AOA, readjust nose attitude and
power as necessary to maintain AOA and
glideslope
6.
Slightly slow and on-glideslope: add a little
power as appropriate and lower nose to
maintain centered ball. As aircraft acceler-
ates and reaches optimum AOA, readjust
power and nose as necessary to maintain
glideslope and AOA
7.
High and fast: correct for a high and fast as
you would for a high or a fast (reduce
power to increase rate of descent and
adjust nose attitude to maintain optimum
AOA). However, a greater reduction of
power will be required
