Descents 1.9.1.4.1.1
CAUTION: Remember the "minute to
live" rule to prevent excessive rates of
descent during approaches (either VFR
or IFR conditions): at or below an alti-
tude of 5,000 ft AGL, the aircraft's rate of
descent should not exceed its altitude,
e.g., at 3,000 ft AGL, your rate of descent
should be no greater than 3,000 ft per
minute (fpm).
a.
Jet penetration: used for quick de-
scent to lower altitudes associated with
field entry and landing pattern when
fuel is not a primary consideration and
you do not want to gain excessive
airspeed or cover a large horizontal
distance
(1) Reduce power to IDLE and extend
speed brakes as required
(2) Descend at 4,000-6,000 fpm
(3) Maintain 250 KIAS with nose
attitude
