Familiarization Flight Procedures

(4) Lead level off by 10% of rate of
descent at desired altitude by
nose, and adding power to main-
tain 250 KIAS
b.
Enroute/idle descent: used to mini-
mize fuel consumption while
maintaining enroute speed during
descent
(1) Reduce power to IDLE
(2) Begin descent when distance to
destination in nm is approximately
2.5 times the thousands of feet
aircraft is above desired altitude
EXAMPLE: At 20,000 ft MSL,
begin the descent at 50 nm
(2.5 x 20 = 50).
(3) Maintain enroute airspeed until
10,000 ft then maintain 250 KIAS
when below 10,000 ft
(4) Lead level off by 10% of rate of
descent above desired altitude
c.
Maximum range/idle descent: used to
maximize distance in descent while
minimizing fuel consumption
(1) When distance to destination in
nm is approximately 3 times the
thousands of feet the aircraft is
above desired altitude, reduce
power to idle and maintain
190-200 KIAS (0 drag index) with
nose attitude
