TACAN APPROACH
D. TACAN/VOR DME approach procedures 2.9.4.2.2
1.
Approaching the initial approach fix (IAF)
a.
To begin a penetration, the aircraft must be established on the initial
approach course at or inside the IAF
b.
Frequently the IAF is approached on a heading significantly different
than the penetration heading. When this occurs, the pilot should use
one of the following methods to better align the aircraft:
(1) Turn the shortest direction to the initial penetration course
PRESS ENTER NOW FOR NEXT GRAPHIC OVERLAY SERIES (Sg 3, Fr 9)
(2) If already established in the published holding pattern and
cleared for approach, execute an early turn if applicable, within
holding airspace
(a) Not necessary to fly to outer limit of pattern
(b) You should not request holding specifically for alignment
(3) Request an offset entry from the controlling facility
(a) Fly to a turning point that will roll the aircraft out on course at
completion of turn
