LECTURE NOTES
Roll and Go Landings
Stress not rotating for takeoff until engine is spooled up.
*Request the option
Discuss crosswind effects and aileron corrections.
*Perform a normal landing
(throttle to IDLE on
touchdown)
*Work hard on maintaining
A. Make normal full flap/slat landing approach and
centerline
touchdown
*As aircraft reaches 4,000 ft
B. Reduce power to IDLE on touchdown
remaining or 100 KIAS, go
around
C. Smoothly apply aileron into wind as required to
maintain wings level, maintain longitudinal stick
at approach position or slightly forward, and
neutralize rudder prior to nose wheel touchdown
D. Maintain directional control with nose wheel
steering
1.
A smoother roll-out is achieved by accept-
ing a little drift from centerline
2.
Make small and few corrections for drift
E. At 100 KIAS or 4,000-ft-remaining marker,
advance power to MRT and retract speed
brakes
CAUTION: Do not continue to roll past the
4,000-ft-remaining marker on the runway
unless a go-around has been initiated by
increasing power to MRT.
F. Fly aircraft off runway, rotating at 5-10 knots
prior to predicted takeoff speed
G. Turn downwind
1.
With proper interval
2.
At or above 300 ft AGL
