GCA Procedures

Pilot
a.
Repeats (in pattern)
(1) Headings
(2) Altitudes
(3) Altimeter settings
b.
Acknowledges all radio calls

Controller
a.
Must provide (or ensure pilot has) during initial pattern
(1) Altimeter setting
(2) Ceiling and visibility when
(a) Ceiling is below 1,000 ft AGL or highest circling minimum,
whichever is higher
(b) Visibility is less than 3 miles
(3) Any special weather observations
(4) Any special airport conditions
(5) Lost communication instructions
(a) Must make contact at least every 60 seconds in the pattern
(b) Must make contact at least every 5 seconds on final
(c) Must provide procedure to follow
COMMON ERROR: Confusion of PAR time of 5 seconds
with the ASR time of 15 seconds on final.
COMMON ERROR: Forgetting to get a radio check after 60
seconds in the pattern without communication.
