Base leg
a.
Procedure
(1) Maintain assigned base leg altitude: normally 1,500 ft AGL at
200 KIAS
(2) When within 10 nm and 30 radials of FAC, transition to landing
configuration
(3) Maintain 150 KIAS, speed brakes retracted and perform landing
checklist
b.
Control
(1) Establish a 30-degree AOB turn
COMMON ERROR: Not performing a 30-degree AOB turn in
pattern.
(2) Lower gear and set full flaps/slats below 200 KIAS
(3) Perform landing checklist (speed brakes retracted)
(4) Correct nose attitude for resultant lift, change from flaps/slats
(5) Establish a nose attitude reference and power setting for level
flight at 150 KIAS
(a) Full flaps - Approximately nose on horizon, approximately
2500 lbs fuel flow
(b) One-half flaps - Approximately 2-3 degrees noseup,
approximately 2500 lbs fuel flow
(6) Trim as required throughout the maneuver
