GCA Procedures
NOTE: Always maintain situational
awareness! If you believe that a
controller's instruction is obviously
wrong (e.g., Turn left xxx degrees,
when Turn right . . . seems correct),
challenge the instruction. Even GCA
controllers make mistakesmistakes
that may kill a complacent pilot.

Controller
a.
Must provide (or ensure pilot has)
during initial pattern
(1) Altimeter setting
(2) Ceiling and visibility when
(a) Ceiling is below 1,000 ft AGL
or highest circling minimum,
whichever is higher
(b) Visibility is less than 3 statute
miles
(3) Any special weather observations
(4) Any special airport conditions
(5) Lost communication instructions
(a) Must make contact at least
every 60 seconds in the
pattern
(b) Must make contact at least
every 5 seconds on final
(c) Must provide procedure to
follow
