(e) U.S. Coast Guard-approved ring buoys with
retrieving line attached available at pool side.
(f) Rescue tubes for safety swimmer's use that meet
American Red Cross standards, (rescue torpedoes acceptable
substitute).
(g) At least one properly equipped backboard readily
available at pool side.
(h) Telephone with emergency phone numbers posted
readily accessible to the training pool staff.
(i) Whistles for all instructors.
(k) At least one emergency 100% oxygen breathing
apparatus with Laerdal Pocket Mask, allowing administration of
(l) Eardrops to prevent ear infection made available
to students, (an example of an acceptable solution is 2% acetic
acid, 95% isopropyl alcohol and 3% distilled water).
(3) Pistol familiarization instructional area
requirement: The range/facility must meet all requirements for a
Navy Standard "A" Course per OPNAVINST 3591.1
c.
Alternative Plan
(1) Personnel must complete all classroom training to
receive a designation certificate.
(2) IUT's must complete all course objectives in order
to graduate. IUT's must receive all lesson plan presentations.
The Commanding Officer may waive certain events if factors (e.g.
weather, medical) preclude the students from participating, the
Plan, and every effort has been made to complete the evolution.
d. Safety:
Drop on Request (DOR)/Training Time Out/Student
Safety Policy
(1) All IUT's shall be briefed on the CNET "DOR" and
"Training Time Out" policy prior to the commencement of
training.
