Correction for wind drift (TACAN, VOR)
Sg 2, fr 29
2.7.5.1.8.2
NOTE: The T-45C display system displays
magnetic track (ergo, wind drift), ground
speed, and wind direction/velocity. The

following tracking procedures apply for
aircraft without enhanced information
systems; however, all pilots need to master
CORRECTION FOR WIND DRIFT
these skills.
a.
Use bracketing method to determine
wind drift and required correction to
compensate
(1) If the wind direction/velocity is
unknown, initially turn on course
and maintain a heading equal to
the course (Example - 045)
(2) Note the drift direction and rate by
observing CDI needle
displacement rate
(3) Apply a correction to return to
course (Example - 035 for a
10-degree correction)
(4) Upon reestablishing course,
maintain a heading equal to
50 percent of the correction
(Example - 040)
(5) Note any subsequent drift and
bracket again to kill the drift and
remain on the desired radial/
bearing
b.
Wind drift correction is also know as
"crabbing"
