Hydraulic System
(1) Stores hydraulic fluid for HYD 1
operation
(2) Provides fluid under nitrogen
preload pressure to HYD 1 to
prevent EDP cavitation
(3) Provides fluid pressure to compo-
nent seals during non-operating
periods to minimize leaks

Physical
(1) Consists of a cylinder with a free-
floating piston that separates
hydraulic fluid from nitrogen
(2) Pressurized with nitrogen to the
appropriate pressure during
ground maintenance
(3) Fluid quantity depends both on
quantity remaining in accumulators
and the hydraulic fluid temperature
(4) Has external quantity gauge to be
checked during preflight
