APPENDIX B
WEPFP-01 (HUD)
LESSON OUTLINE
MOTIVATION
The head-up display allows you to fly a weapons delivery pattern while focusing your attention out of the
cockpit.
OVERVIEW
After this lesson, you will understand the principles and procedures that will enable you to set up the
T-45A HUD for accurate air-to-ground weapons delivery. The lesson will also provide fundamentals that
you can apply to more sophisticated HUDs in the future.
This lesson covers HUD air-to-ground modes and settings for weapons delivery. You will study:
*
Weapons display symbology and mode/submode selection
*
Data entry
*
Abnormal indications and failure procedures
PRESENTATION
I.
Weapon system controls 7.7.3.3
A. Weapons selector controls master modes
1. Navigation: OFF
2. Air-to-ground: BOMBS or GUN A/G
a. Initial submode: depressed sight line (DSL)
b. MODE key on the HUD data entry panel (DEP) toggles between the DSL and CCIP
(continuously computed impact point) air-to-ground submodes
3. Air-to-air: GUN A/A
B. If master mode is changed, HUD remembers previous setting
EXAMPLE: If HUD is set to CCIP bombs and then is changed to navigation, returning to an air-to-
ground setting will return CCIP rather than expected DSL; placing weight on wheels and turning
power off will return HUD to DSL next time it is powered up.
