| CHAPTER FOUR
FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHTS (FAMS)
NOTE
There is no need to report the numbers if clearance to break has
already been received.
After the IP executes the break, the aircraft is then slowed and the gear and flaps lowered as the
aircraft decelerates through 165 KIAS. The student will initiate the Landing Checklist only after
visually confirming the gear is down-and-locked on the landing gear indicator.

locked."

"Landing light."
"Landing light On/ Off."
The student will confirm the AOA calculated by the IP. If the OUI determines that the IP
calculated AOA is incorrect, they will announce it on ICS: "AOA is 108."
STUDENT: "My harness is locked, gear is down, landing Checklist complete, cleared to land 7
right."
The student will state intentions at the abeam position.
STUDENT: "Tower, ROKT 204, abeam, full stop."
TOWER: "ROKT 204, Sherman Tower, winds 060 at 8 knots, RWY 7R, cleared to land."
STUDENT: "ROKT 204, cleared to land, 7R."
Often the landing gear has not yet been lowered as the abeam call is being made. If this is the
case, no reference to the landing gear occurs during this transmission. A separate UHF
transmission is required once the gear is lowered and the Landing Checklist is completed.
STUDENT: "Tower, ROKT 204, three down-and-locked."
