CHAPTER SIX
SECTION LOW ALTITUDE TACTICS AND PROCEDURES
Emergency Safe Altitude. This is a MSL altitude specific to each leg that will
ESA:
provide at least 500 feet vertical clearance from the highest obstruction within 10NM of leg
courseline. This would be the minimum altitude to climb to in the event of disorientation or
entry into inadvertent IMC conditions on the route. The leg's ESA will be calculated as follows:
1.
Take the highest MEF (block altitude) along the leg and add 500 feet.
2.  If there is any CHUM tower within 10NM of leg courseline, round its altitude up to the
next 100 feet and then add 500 feet.
3.
Pick the higher of the two figures. This is the ESA for that leg.
Estimated Fuel Remaining. Derived from mission planning.
EFR:
Mission Completion Fuel. The fuel required to complete the route as planned and
MCF:
arrive at the planned destination with the SOP fuel of 1000 LBS on deck after an instrument
approach.
JOKER: This is the fuel required to leave the route, fly the most direct route possible and
arrive at the planned destination with the SOP fuel of 1000 LBS on deck after an instrument
approach. (You should never get to this point).

NOTE
A BINGO fuel from each turnpoint to the nearest suitable divert
will also be also be computed and annotated on the divert chart.
All routes must be scheduled at least two hours prior to the desired entry time. This is an FAA
requirement and should be coordinated as appropriate.
