CHAPTER TEN
speed overshoot in the vertical (i.e., an overshoot resulting from a high-to-low attack). We
introduce the roller so the student will be able to recognize it during a fight and be able to direct
its execution.
A developed rolling scissors will consist of a series of horizontal and vertical overshoots
(Figure 10-19). Like the horizontal scissors, positional advantage in a roller is achieved by
reducing down range travel relative to the bogey. This is accomplished using vertical
maneuvering with proper energy and lift vector control.
The demonstration rolling scissors will be initiated from the perch.
Perch PADS:
P - Abeam
A - Lead: 14,000 feet; Wing: 15,500 feet
D - 3/4 NM
S - 250 KIAS
The maneuver will be initiated by the defensive IP's "Fight's on". The attacker will echo
"Fight's on" and execute a standard roll-in off the perch and low reversal. The attacker will
continue the attack and execute an in-close flight path overshoot which the defender will take
advantage of by with a reversing pull into the vertical.
