Additionally, the AOA indexer lights should be illuminated.
407. APU START/POSTSTART
The aircraft will be started using either the battery or the external power via an auxiliary power
unit (APU). The majority of aircraft starts utilize an APU, but students always need to be
prepared for a battery start. At least one start in the FAM stage will be done on battery power.
APU Start
IP signals PC to apply 28 VDC external power.
IP signals PC and initiates start sequence on #2 (right) engine.
IP (ICS): "Starting number 2"
During the start sequence, the student monitors engine instruments and the PC for abnormal start
indications. Upon successful start and thumbs up signal from PC:
STUDENT (ICS): "Thumbs up from the PC."
IP (ICS): "Roger, starting number 1."
During the start sequence, the student again monitors engine instruments and the PC for
abnormal start indications. Upon successful start and thumbs up signal from PC:
STUDENT (ICS): "Thumbs up from the PC."
IP signals PC to disconnect external power.
APU Poststart
After the IP turns on both generators and the NO. 1 GEN OUT and NO. 2 GEN OUT caution
lights extinguish, the student takes command of the UHF, ADF, TACAN, and compass. The
student will then obtain ATIS.
After receiving ATIS, the student will switch the UHF radio back to Base frequency. At this
point, the IP will signal the PC to initiate PC checks:
