T-45C TS, ADV & IUT TFFP-01
2. Method of use: with the HUD properly set, target's
wingspan should fill inner area of aiming reticle while
firing (inner radius = 1000 ft range) with no need to lead
target; requires one second of tracking prior to firing
3. Real Time Gun Sight (RTGS)
a. Description
(1) Designed for gun aiming against maneuvering
target
(2) Aiming reticle indicates instantaneous impact
point of the round at 1000 ft; employed in guns
tracking and raking attacks
(3) Solution always valid
b. Method of use
(1) For guns tracking a maneuvering target: once
in range establish reticle with 1/3 sec lead to
compensate for bullet time of flight (TOF)
(2) For raking attack when target is anticipated to
cross your nose with high angle off within gun
range: once in range, put reticle where target
will be in 1/3 second and fire; target should fly
into stream of bullets
4. Missile
NOTE: There is no specific submode in the HUD for
air-to-air missile firing. To provide adequate missile
aiming information with the HUD, center the bogey on
the HUD's heading reference, which approximates the
aircraft's armament datum line at high airspeed and
under moderate G force.
