T-45C TS, ADV, & IUT BIFP-01
Instrument Takeoff and Climb with SID
MOTIVATION
Instrument takeoffs (ITOs) and departures are the tools
that allow us to perform our mission under nearly any
weather conditions. The basic instrument skills used in
the ITO, combined with the navigation information
available to you in a standard instrument departure (SID)
or a radar-vectored departure, allow you to begin your
flight safely and efficiently.
Understanding the relationship between basic instrument
skills and navigation information will be crucial to your
performance in the Radio Instrument and Airways
Navigation blocks.
Because efficient instrument scan techniques are key to
skilled instrument flying, your ability to perform well will
depend on recognizing the basic flight maneuvers
contained within instrument departures and then using an
appropriate scan pattern for each.
OVERVIEW
When you have completed this lesson, you will be able to
recall step-by-step procedures for the T-45C instrument
takeoff and recognize the differences between pilot
navigated and radar-vectored IFR departures.
In this lesson, we will be studying the procedure,
technique, and instrument scans for the following:
*
Instrument takeoffs (ITO's)
*
Instrument departures
*
Flying a standard instrument departure (SID)
