Introduction to Tactical Formation Procedures
T-45A UJPT, ADV, & IUT TFFP-02
6.
Techniques for maintaining position
a.
Sucked: lower nose, add power, accelerate to bearing,
then raise nose to arrive on bearing at 300 KIAS
b.
Acute: pull up nose and reduce power, when approaching
bearing, lower nose to regain 300 KIAS
c.
Acute and wide/close or very acute: go to MRT, make hard
turn in appropriate direction
d.
Altitude less than 1,000 ft stepup: add power to correct
while maintaining 300 KIAS
LESSON NOTES
Emphasize throughout TacForm instruction that the amount of any correc-
tion depends on the amount of the positional error. Small errors require
minor maneuvering to finesse the aircraft into proper combat spread. Gross
errors require more aggressive flying.
Emphasize lack of visual cues for maintaining lateral position and the
necessity for developing a good inside/outside scan for heading.
