Introduction to Tactical Formation Procedures
T-45A UJPT, ADV, & IUT TFFP-02
d.
Aircraft turn radius
3.
Vertical separation: vertical split with the wingman normally
stepped up 1,000 ft
LESSON NOTES
Point out reasons for vertical split in the fleet.
4.
Entry procedure
a.
Lead
(1) Check to see flight area is clear
(2) Advise wingman of heading, altitude, and airspeed
(3) Signal wingman to assume combat spread
b.
Wingman
(1) When advised, check heading and airspeed
(2) When signalled, go to MRT and move up abeam lead
aircraft
(3) Fly out (abeam) from lead on a 10-15 degree heading
differential with a 10-15 kt airspeed advantage
(4) Vary pitch and AOB to arrive 3/4-1 nm abeam with
1,000 ft of vertical separation
5.
Common error while transitioning to combat spread position
a.
Problem: wingman makes too great or too quick a cut to
combat spread, causing sucked position
Correction: reduce heading differential and/or vary rate of
climb to maintain bearing
