Formation Emergencies
B. The on-scene commander shall
1.
Assure responsibility for the remainder of the flight
2.
Make the necessary voice reports
3.
Keep the downed aircraft/pilots in sight
C. Flight management by the on-scene commander falls into two categories
1.
Remainder of flight remains intact
2.
Flight members not needed for SAR efforts are ordered to return to base
(RTB)
D. The particulars for either situation listed above should be covered in the flight
brief and fully understood by all members in the flight
E. The on-scene commander should utilize the following checklist commensurate
with the situation
1.
Identification
a.
Number of survivors
b.
Establish order of communication
c.
Determine injuries
d.
Check all assets' time on station and equipment on board which may
help pinpoint survivor location, etc.
2.
Location
a.
Request general terrain description
b.
Determine signaling devices
c.
Request beeper for homing
d.
Request survivor(s) give vectors to position
