3.3.4.5. LEAD "Base, RKT 230 Outbound."
3.4. TAXI
3.4.1. Lead Student calls for taxi after a positive check-in on Ground frequency.
3.4.1.1. LEAD "Turbo."
3.4.1.2. WING "Two."
3.4.1.3. LEAD "Ground, RKT 230, flight of two, taxi with (ATIS)."
NOTE: There is a positive check-out and check-in on all frequency changes except for an
automatic switch to tower frequency in the Hold Short (no positive check-in) and an automatic
switch to ground control when clearing the duty (with a positive check-in when Wing is clear of
the runway).
3.4.2. Each student performs Post-Start/Instrument Checks individually as well as gives a taxi
report and completes the T/O Checks. Additionally, each student determines whether the limits
for a section go have been met, and which side of the runway to take (based on ATIS WX). This
is reported to the IP. Understand this may change based on what the winds are when cleared for
T/O.
3.4.2.1. STUDENT "We're in limits for a section go, and we should be on the right."
3.4.2.2. Upon entering the Hold Short Area, each student switches to Tower frequency.
3.4.2.3. Each student inspects the other aircraft, paying special attention to the following:
3.4.2.3.1. Flaps - one-half
3.4.2.3.2. Speed brakes - in
3.4.2.3.3. Hook - up
3.4.2.3.4. Canopy - down
3.4.2.3.5. Upper ejection pin - pulled
3.4.2.3.6. Overall integrity (no leaks, no open panels, no gear pins left in, etc.)
3.4.2.4. When the student is satisfied with his/her playmate's condition, he/she passes a thumbs
up. Either student can initiate the thumbs up. The "thumbs up" means "I'm ready, I'm up
Button 4, and you appear ready."
3.5. TAKEOFF
3.5.1. Call for T/O
3.5.1.1. Lead Student calls for T/O. The T/O call sounds something like this:
3.5.1.1.1. LEAD "Tower, RKT 230, T/O."
3.5.1.1.2. TOWER "RKT 230, winds 060 at 10, RWY 7R, cleared for T/O. Contact
Departure."
3.5.1.1.3. LEAD "RKT 230, cleared and switching, Turbo Button 5."
3.5.1.1.4. WING "Two."
