SHACKLE TURN
Standard shackle turn
The Shackle turn is designed to adjust the formation (i.e., wingman is sucked or acute) and
resume the initial direction. A shackle will result in the lead and wing swapping sides and may
also be used to adjust timing on a low-level route (a shackle turn will lose approximately 10 - 15
seconds of down range travel time). A shackle turn is also an effective maneuver to clear the
section's mutual six (Figure 6-10).
