Engaging from high cover--free fighter 5.7.1.4.3.1, 5.7.1.4.5.1
WARNING: The free fighter is tasked with overall
responsibility for maintaining separation, keeping sight and
avoiding a midair collision while changing roles or
transitioning from low/high cover. The free fighter must
preserve the 500-ft bubble. The free fighter will never
engage from forward of the 4/8 position while outside the
engaged fighter. Although the engaged fighter cannot
always maintain visual contact, he too is tasked with
collision avoidance responsibility. While the free fighter is
coming down from high cover to engage, it is absolutely
mandatory that he preserve the 500-ft bubble. Mutual
lookout is the key to avoiding midair collisions.
NOTE: The free fighter should always be in a position to
engage from either high or low cover.
