Operational and Ejection Emergency Procedures
LESSON NOTES
Further demonstrate the plotting process on the charts, using
random examples of airspeed and dive angle.
E.
Ejection procedures 1.5.3.1.5.6, 1.8.1.10.3.2,
1.8.1.10.5.2.1
1.
Considerations
a.
Communicate intentions to other cockpit, wing-
man, and ATC, if practicable
b.
Ejection decision, in most cases, rests with
pilot-in-command and should be made before
sink rate and altitude conditions jeopardize safe
ejection for both pilots
c.
If aircraft is controllable, head toward an area of
minimum population
d.
Ejection seat must be used to escape aircraft in
flight and canopy must be either closed and
locked or missing. If canopy fails to detonate,
seat will impact and shatter the canopy and
continue up the catapult rail.
WARNING: Ejection with the canopy in any
position other than fully closed and locked
is not recommended. Serious bodily injury
and seat malfunction may occur. Severe
head/neck injury may occur if ejection is
initiated with aircrew head above ejection
seat canopy breakers and ejection occurs in
the Backup Mode (through canopy).
