Egress System
(13) End of catapult travel
NOTE: Near the end of the
catapult stroke, the rocket initiator
static lines become taut and
withdraw the mechanism sears.
Gas pressure from the rocket
initiator cartridge is directed to the
following items.
(a) Start switch plungers
(commence sequencer timing)
(b) Barostatic release unit
(c) Pitot mechanism to deploy
pitot heads
(d) Underseat rocket motor
NOTE: The underseat motor
is fired to sustain catapult
thrust and ensure that the seat
clears the aircraft.
(14) Ejection mode sequence
Sg 3, fr 28
(a) Mode determined by electronic
sequencer based on altitude
and airspeed data from pitot
heads at time of ejection
NOTE: The ejection mode
sequence follows one of five
MODES OF OPERATION
modes. Modes 1, 2, and 3 are
defined to include ejection
where the aircraft is operating
at low altitudes and airspeeds.
Mode 4 occurs at intermediate
altitudes and any airspeed.
Mode 5 occurs at high
altitudes (greater than
18,000 ft) and at any airspeed.
