Operational Navigation Flight Training Instruction
The newly designated lead will now be responsible for all the target attack calls for the remainder of the
route. Once the last target attack is complete or the route is complete and the flight is back in combat
spread, the lead will call "knock it off" which will be acknowledged by the wingman. The wingman will then
safe all switches and return to the navigation mode and initiate the call "[call sign] fenced out on the left/
right" the lead will acknowledge with his own fenced out call. Once fenced out, the lead can then clear the
wingman to join on the lead and the lead will call "reselect COMM1. Call the controlling agency with a
courtesy call, once acknowledged, say the flight is exiting the IR route with the desire to cancel and RTB
VFR with monitors or continue on your IFR clearance. When the wingman is aboard in parade and ATC
has acknowledged your route exit, a fuel check will be completed and the wingman put in cruise. On
descent minimum power for lead is 80% rpm, use speedbrakes as required. At the initial set the power at
approximately 2,000 pph, descend, and smoothly level at break altitude.
