GRID LAYOUT PROCEDURES FOR AN MC-2 MAGNETIC SURVEY
1. Determine the required distances, not to exceed 30 feet, between stations
that will give complete coverage of the existing compass rose, and record the
dimensions on the Grid Layout Sheet.
2. Secure the rotating section of the compass rose.
Ensure that it is level
and solid.
3. Set up the Monitor over the South bench mark and align the cross hairs on
the North marker plate or bench mark. Moving the telescope in elevation only,
mark the center of the compass rose and the North hub.
4. Set up at the center station, F-6, and align the cross hairs on the North
hub. Set azimuth scale to zero. Mark stations F-1 through F-5 at the
distances determined in step (1), moving the telescope in elevation only.
5. Rotate telescope to 90 degrees.
Mark the East hub and stations G-6
through K-6.
6. Rotate telescope to 180 degrees.
Mark the South hub and stations F-7
through F-11.
7. Rotate telescope to 270 degrees.
Mark the West hub and stations A-6
through E-6.
8. Set up at station E-6 and align cross hairs on East hub. Set azimuth
scale to 90 degrees and rotate telescope to zero degrees. Mark azimuth
control stakes and station E-1 through E-5 by moving the telescope elevation
only. Rotate the telescope to 180 degrees and mark stations E-7 through E-11.
9. Repeat step 8 setting up over stations A-6 through D-6.
Mark stations and
azimuth control stakes corresponding to these positions.
10. Set up at station G-6 and align cross hairs on West hub. Set azimuth
scale to 90 degrees and rotate telescope to zero degrees. Mark azimuth
control stake and stations G-1 through G-5. Rotate telescope to 180 degrees
and mark stations G-7 through G-11.
11. Repeat step 10 setting up over stations H-6 through K-6.
Mark stations
and azimuth control stakes corresponding to these positions.
