CHAPTER FOUR
T-6A INSTRUMENT NAVIGATION
2.  Three to five minutes prior to your ETA, tune the secondary station and check the position
of the bearing pointer. Do not change the course in the CDI yet.
3.
If the tail of the bearing pointer is not within 10 of the intersection radial:
a.
Retune the primary station and continue to track.
b.
Wait a maximum of one minute.
c.
Retune the secondary station and again check to see if the tail of the bearing pointer is
within 10 of the intersection radial.
d.
Keep checking until the tail of the bearing pointer is within 10 of the intersection
radial.
4.
If the tail of the bearing pointer is within 10 of the intersection radial:
a.
Set the desired course in the CDI (in this case you must set the course you desire to
fly after the intersection). Select the proper source for the CDI.
b.
When the CDI centers, turn toward the new course.
c.
Note the time when the CDI centers.
d.
Give a voice report if required.
NOTE
If turning onto an airway from an intersection and the turn is
expected to be greater than 30, do not forget to lead the turn by
the appropriate amount.
If you have already passed the intersection, turn to intercept the new course using the VOR
bearing pointer, set the inbound course in the CDI, select the proper source for the CDI, and give
a voice report if required.
COMMON ERRORS
1.
Not having an ETA figured prior to the intersection (non-radar).
2.
Twisting a course in the CDI when not within 10 of the intersection radial.
3.  Not recognizing the aircraft is already past the intersection. Remember, the tail of the
bearing pointer rises.
