1.4.5. On most occasions, the canopy is left open until taking the runway for departure. If this is
the case, the IP reply to the student challenge of "Canopy" will be "Holding." Realize the
Takeoff Checklist is therefore not yet complete.
1.5. TAKEOFF
1.5.1. Upon entering the Hold Short Area, switch the UHF radio to Tower and call for T/O.
1.5.1.1. STUDENT "Tower, RKT 204, T/O."
1.5.1.2. TOWER "RKT 204, Sherman Tower, RWY 7R, winds 040 at 10 kts, change to
Departure, cleared for T/O."
1.5.1.3. STUDENT "RKT 204, cleared for T/O, 7R, switching."
1.5.2. Once cleared to take the runway, either for departure or for position and hold, it is the
student's responsibility to initiate the lowering of the canopy and to finish the Takeoff Checklist.
1.5.2.1. STUDENT "Clear for the canopy."
1.5.2.2. IP "Roger, canopy coming down."
1.5.3. Once canopy is down-and-locked,
1.5.3.1. STUDENT "Canopy."
1.5.3.2. IP "Down, locked, light's out."
1.5.3.3. STUDENT "T/O checks complete."
