CHAPTER EIGHT
ANTI-ICE AND DEFOG SYSTEMS
800. INTRODUCTION
This chapter discusses the anti-ice and defog systems installed on the aircraft. The aircraft is
capable of flying in all weather; therefore it is essential you understand the capabilities and
limitations of the system. This knowledge will help build a solid foundation for understanding
the potential hazards associated with flying in dynamic weather conditions and the
responsibilities associated with flight in adverse weather conditions. Additionally, it provides
you with an understanding of these systems to aid in understanding operating procedures and
limitations.
The icing protection systems prevent ice on the following areas:
1.
Wing leading edges
2.
Horizontal stabilizer
3.
Air Data Systems (ADS)
a.
Pitot tubes
b.
Static ports
c.
Angle-of-Attack (AOA) vanes and transmitters
4.
Flight deck windows
a.
Windshield imbedded heater elements
b.
Supplemental windshield and side windows defogging is provided by
the ACU and EHS
801. ENABLING OBJECTIVE
Recall the basic description, related components and systems, and operating limitations of the
anti-icing and defog systems.
802. ENABLING STEPS
1.
List all limitations for operation of anti-icing equipment on the ground and in flight.
2.
State procedures and limitations for using windshield heat.
3.
Recall the indications of illuminated annunciators.
