| CHAPTER THREE
SNFO/SWSO VOICE COMMUNICATIONS
3. The communications sequence begins with hand off from Center to Approach Control.
Initial contact with approach consists of:
Agency, call sign, altitude, ATIS information (if known), type of approach requested.
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Pensacola Approach, KATT 814, 6000,
information ECHO, request ILS at Pensacola
Regional, full stop."
NOTE
Because there is more than one airport in the Pensacola area that
has ILS approaches (Navy Pensacola and Pensacola Regional), you
should specify the airport in the initial call. Let's analyze this call.
The agency is included in all calls. We specified an ILS approach.
The landing intention requested was for a full stop. Notice that we
did not specify a particular runway. Approach will give us
clearance for a specific approach and to proceed to the IAF
descending and vectoring us as necessary.
a.
The communication involved in an ILS or Localizer Approach is similar to the calls
for TACAN and VOR approaches.
Example
SNFO/ SWSO:
"Pensacola Approach, KATT 814, 6000,
information ECHO, request ILS (or Localizer) at
Pensacola Regional, full stop."
CONTROLLER:
"KATT 814 roger, turn right to 090 descend and
maintain 1,700."
SNFO/ SWSO:
"KATT 814, right 090, leaving 6000 for 1700."
b.
As you near the localizer:
CONTROLLER:
"KATT 814, turn right to 120, maintain 1700 until
established on the localizer, cleared for the ILS
(Localizer) Runway 17 approach."
SNFO/ SWSO:
"KATT 814, right 120, maintain 1700 until
established cleared for the ILS (Localizer)."
