| CHAPTER FOUR
SNFO/SWSO VOICE COMMUNICATIONS
NOTE
FSS altimeter settings may be based on outdated data. If you have
recently received an altimeter by a controlling agency, use the
controlling agency's altimeter setting vice the FSS altimeter
setting.
There is no call made to FSS on exit from these non-published routes.
You will make the following calls when flying on a published route (e.g., VR1020, etc.):
Format: "<Agency, call sign, type aircraft>, <route number>, <entry point>, < time>,
<exit point>, <time>, <altitude>, <airspeed>."
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Mobile Radio, Mobile Radio, KATT 150."
RADIO:
"KATT 150, Mobile Radio, go ahead."
SNFO/SWSO:
"KATT 150, single T-1, entering Victor
Romeo1021 point ALPHA at time 51, exiting
point ECHO at time 20, 500 feet, 240 knots."
RADIO:
"KATT 150, roger, no traffic along the route,
altimeter 29.96."
SNFO/SWSO:
"KATT 150, roger."
After exiting the low-level, initiate a call to FSS reporting you are off the low-level route.
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Mobile Radio, KATT 150."
RADIO:
"KATT 150, Mobile Radio, go ahead."
SNFO/SWSO:
"KATT 150, exiting Victor Romeo 1021, point
ECHO at this time."
If FSS does not respond either entering or exiting the low-level, transmit the same information
"in the blind." Other aircraft will still find the information useful.
After completing the low-level route, a request to Center for IFR clearance to your destination is
required. This transmission is termed a "pop-up" call. Format for the "pop-up" call is:
1.
Format: "<Agency, call sign, position, altitude>, request"
