SNFO/SWSO VOICE COMMUNICATIONS
CHAPTER TWO
expeditious flow of aircraft. They also have a communication link with departure control,
approach control, ARTCC, and flight service.
The format for requesting flight clearance when operating VFR is:
"Agency, call sign, VFR, direction of flight, time enroute."
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Sherman Clearance Delivery, KATT 810,
request VFR to the west, 1+30 enroute."
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Sherman Clearance Delivery, KATT 820, IFR
clearance to Echo Foxtrot Delta (EFD- Ellington
Field) on request."
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Sherman Clearance Delivery, KATT 820, NPA
500 on request."
NOTE
If departing VFR, it is imperative to mention the direction of travel
and time or the destination when obtaining clearance. If IFR,
mention the route number or the destination.
If Clearance Delivery has already processed your clearance, they
will read it back. You are expected to copy it and to read it back.
Example
CONTROLLER:
"KATT 810, Sherman Clearance, cleared as filed
to EFD, at 1 DME past the TACAN, turn right to
150 climb to 3,000 expect 10,000 in 5 minutes,
departure frequency 270.8, squawk 3661."
If you are at a field that does not have a Clearance Delivery, utilize Ground for the function.
Since Ground's main duty is to taxi aircraft, additional verbiage is necessary in your request.
