T-34C CONTACT
CHAPTER THREE
3.
Emergency Landing Gear System. The emergency handcrank is in the front cockpit
located on the right side panel. Engaging the crank drives the normal gear actuation system
through a flexible shaft. Approximately 41 turns of the handle are required to fully extend the
gear.
The handcrank clutch knob must be pushed down to engage the system after having first pulled
the PWR and CONT circuit breakers. The drive shaft is a flexible cable and is designed and
stressed only for extension and should not be used to retract the gear. The gear may be extended
manually for demonstration purposes.
CAUTION
The handcrank must be disengaged from the drive shaft after
extending the gear manually; otherwise, subsequent operation of
the gear electrically will cause the crank to spin rapidly, possibly
injuring personnel and damaging the system.
