Hydraulic System
b.
RAT will retract due to spring loading
when HYD 2 pressure drops below
700 psi (air loads permitting)
CAUTION: Placing EMER FLAPS switch to
the DOWN position when normal HYD 1
pressure is available will cause the hydraulic
fluid to rapidly overheat, possibly causing a
HYD 1 seal failure resulting in HYD 1 system
failure.
amplitude control inputs during flight with
RAT only hydraulic pressure could result in
loss of aircraft control. Ejection outside the
safe ejection envelope may occur if control
is lost during a landing attempt.

Emergency hydraulic system malfunctions
1.
Failure of HYD 1 and HYD 2 combined with
failure of the emergency hydraulic system
to produce pressure will cause the HYD
FAIL light to illuminate, MSTR ALERT light
to flash, and warning tone sounds.
Possible reasons for failure are:
WARNING/CAUTION LIGHT PANEL
a.
Failure of RAT to extend at 1,500 psi
and HYD 2 pressure below 1,660
Overlay 1
+/- 110 psi
RAT Extend Caution Light
b.
HYD 2 hydraulic system leakage (loss
of fluid) associated with a HYD 2
PRESS caution light and caution tone
c.
Damage to RAT mechanism with RAT
EXTEND caution light and failure of
HYD 2 pressure to cycle between
2,500 and 3,000 psi
2.
Loss of all hydraulic pressure will result in
loss of control of the aircraft.
