Syllabus Notes
a. This block is broken down into two phases, each
consisting of two flights. The first two flights should
concentrate on basic familiarization maneuvers using NVDs. The
second two flights should concentrate on navigation routes and
procedures while using NVDs.
b. At the end of the block, the total hours shall equal no
less than 7.0 hours NVD time.
c. These flights must be flown separately and may not be
combined.
d.
T4401. Navigation route will not be flown on this
event.
Simulated emergencies will not be practiced on this
event.
e. T4402. Navigation route will not be flown on this
event. Simulated emergencies will be introduced. No hover
takeoffs will be introduced.

Discuss Items
T4401
Preflight NVDs, dark adaptation, light level chart, light
effects, lighting phenomenon, scan pattern, CRM (pilot and
copilot duties), interior and exterior lighting, NVD battery
failure, NVD tube failure, goggle/de-goggle procedures, low
work, and scan.
T4402
Emergency procedures utilizing NVDs, capabilities of NVDs,
closure rates, depth perception, engine failure at night.
