LEAD
WING
Figure 4-13 Tactical Turns Into the Wingman
2.
Tac Turns Away From the Wingman
a.
Called Turns Away From the Wingman (Figure 4-14). The maneuver will begin with
the Lead calling, "(Tactical Call sign), tac right/left". When the Wingman responds,
"Two", the Wingman will turn into the Lead with a standard tactical turn and the Lead
will delay until the 45 bearing line or seeing down the Wingman aircraft's intake (if
starting from a good line abreast position) to start Lead's standard tactical turn.
b.
Uncalled turns away from the Wingman are performed identical to called turns except
there are no radio calls. The lead aircraft will initiate a wing flash in the direction of
turn and the Wingman will commence the standard tactical turn into the Lead while
the Lead delays until the appropriate visual cue.
c.
Visual lookout is accomplished by the Wingman's student checking the formation's
old six and the Lead's student checking the formation's new six. These calls are made
over the ICS to the instructor (i.e., "New six clear." or "Old six clear").
