Climbs and Descents
WING - In addition to all of the previously discussed procedures, the Wingman will also level
off. In a descent, Wing will direct Lead to level off, similar to turns into Wing.
LEAD - In addition to all of the previously discussed procedures, Lead will continue his climb or
descent to the cleared altitude or to an intermediate altitude providing at least 500 feet of
separation from Wingman. Once both lateral and vertical separation is assured, Lead will be
directive with options.
Example of communications (Lead turning away from Wing and passing 6500 for 9000):
W:
"(Tactical Call sign), lost sight, rolling out heading YYY, leveling off at 6500 feet"
L:
"(Tactical Call sign) Lead climbing to 9000 feet"
L:
. . . upon reaching heading XXX "(Tactical Call sign) passing 7000 feet, heading XXX,
hack"
W:
"2"
L:
. . . after 30 seconds: "(Tactical Call sign)-2, you are cleared to heading XXX and
cleared climb to 8500 feet, Lead is established at 9000 feet"
W:
