The Split-S maneuver combines the first half of an aileron roll with the last half of a loop. By
seeing this maneuver demonstrated you will develop an appreciation of how rapidly airspeed
increases and altitude decreases in such a situation. Figure 8-6.
To commence the Split-S, reduce power to idle and apply back stick pressure as necessary to
maintain altitude and slow to approximately 120 to 140 KIAS. Raise the nose and roll inverted,
and then commence a smooth pull as in the last half of the loop.
