WEAPONS
Wingmen equals three times the confusion. From this point on, it is imperative the Wingmen
listen up for frequency changes and check-ins!
3.16. TAXI
3.16.1. Lead Student calls for taxi after a positive check-in on Ground frequency. Additionally,
a heads up is given to Ground as to the type of T/O the flight desires. Ideally, this gives Tower
time to coordinate an expeditious launch of the Division.
3.16.1.1. LEAD "Turbo."
3.16.1.2. DASH TWO "Two."
3.16.1.3. DASH THREE "Three."
3.16.1.4. DASH FOUR "Four."
3.16.1.5. LEAD "Ground, RKT 230, flight of four, taxi with (ATIS), split the duals."
NOTE: There is a positive check-out and check-in on all frequency changes except for an
automatic switch to tower frequency in the Hold Short (no positive check-in) and an automatic
switch to ground control when clearing the duty (with a positive check-in when Wingmen are
clear of the runway).
3.16.2. Each student performs Post-Start/Instrument checks individually as well as gives a taxi
report and completes the T/O checks. Additionally, each student determines whether the limits
for a section go are met, and which side of the runway to take (based on ATIS WX). This is
reported to the IP. Understand this may change based on what the winds are when cleared for
T/O. Lead and Dash Two T/O as a section, and Dash Three and Dash Four T/O as a section.
3.16.2.1. STUDENT "We're in limits for a section go, and we should be on the right."
3.16.3. Upon entering the Hold Short Area, each student switches to Tower frequency.
3.16.4. Each student inspects the other aircraft in the section, paying special attention to the
following:
3.16.4.1. Flaps - one-half
3.16.4.2. Speed brakes - in
3.16.4.3. Hook - up
3.16.4.4. Canopy - down
3.16.4.5. Upper ejection pin - pulled
3.16.4.6. Overall integrity (no leaks, no open panels, no gear pins left in, etc.)
3.16.5. When the student is satisfied with his/her playmate's condition, he/she passes a thumbs
up. The thumbs up is passed from Four to Three to Two to Lead.
