APPENDIX B
Before Landing Checklist
1.
Slowing through 200 KIAS in the break (visual).
2.
8-10 NM prior to TDZ on TACAN approach.
+ 30o and 10 NM out on GCA.
3.

NLT "1 dot below glideslope" on ILS.
NOTE
Asking for the gear above 200 KIAS or asking to slow to gear speed when
below 200 KIAS is a below average in scan.
5.
Priorities at IAF, FAF, MAP or DH are to Aviate, Navigate, Communicate, then checklists.
6.
Missed approach/climb out instructions should be given on final approach course, prior to
the FAF.
7.  Once the P takes over visually, the student should be scanning "meatball, line-up, and
AOA/Airspeed." Generally, no comments are made to the P unless outside safe parameters or
conflicting traffic exists.
8.  Prior to touchdown, the student should verbally re-verify gear and flaps down and landing
clearance.
Go-Around and Touch and Go
1.
The P will advance the throttles to recommended go-around N1.
2.
Verbalize: "Two positive rates of climb."
Retract the gear when directed and retract the flaps to 10o when directed.
3.

Monitor attitude, airspeed, VSI, and altitude.
5.
Initiate After Takeoff/Climb Checklist or Pattern Checklist as appropriate.
Full Stop
1.
Student will call out airspeed and distance remaining until P initiates braking.
2.
Monitor tower frequency until clear of the active and non-duty runways.
