STUDENT GUIDE FOR T-1A AIRCRAFT SYSTEMS
CHAPTER THREE
governs the high compressor rotor speed. This unit also schedules fuel flow during acceleration
and deceleration, with automatic compensation for conditions at the engine inlet.
304. ENGINE THRUST
The primary purpose of the flat-rated engine is to provide constant thrust throughout various
temperature/altitude ranges:
1.
2900 lbs of Takeoff Rated Thrust (TRT)
2.
2900 lbs of Maximum Continuous Thrust (MCT)
305. ENGINE BLEED AIR
High-pressure compressor discharge air is bled off (bleed air) to provide various functions
including hot air for anti-icing protection, cabin pressurization, and hydraulic reservoir
pressurization. The pressure used varies between 10 and 30 psi depending on the system being
provided with pressure.
306. ENGINE OIL SYSTEM
The engine oil system supplies cooled, pressurized oil for lubrication and cooling of engine
bearings and accessory drive bearings. It consists of an integral oil tank in each engine with a
capacity of 2.03 gallons.
307. ENGINE FUEL CONTROL SYSTEM
Fuel flow to the engine is mechanically controlled by throttle movement and regulated by the
EFC system. The EFC system actually determines fuel scheduling under all conditions of speed,
altitude, and temperature. The system consists of:
1.
A dual-purpose, engine driven, high-pressure pump
2.
A Hydromechanical Metering Unit (HMU)
3.
An EFC
4.
A flow meter
5.
A flow divider valve
6.
A safety shutoff valve
7.
A dual fuel manifold
8.
Twelve dual-orifice fuel nozzles
