CHAPTER FOUR
FAMILIARIZATION FLIGHTS (FAMS)
403. BRIEF
Unless coordinated otherwise, the student will meet the IP in the VT-86 briefing spaces at the
scheduled brief time. A briefing board will be completed to the commencement of the brief to
include the following:
1.
Type flight (i.e., FAM 1)
2.
Aircraft callsign (i.e., ROKT 204)
3.
Instructor and student names
4.
Brief, T/O, and land times
5.
Route of flight (i.e., NPA 802 or DD-175)
6.
Fuel: On board, Joker, and Bingo as required
7.
Takeoff and Land Data (TOLD)
8.  T/O distance for half flap configuration and an aircraft weight of 14,000 lbs. Landing
distances for half and full flap configurations and fuel weights of 1,000 and 3,000 lbs.

NOTE
Takeoff and Landing Data (TOLD) is temperature specific. These
numbers will be computed from the appropriate charts found in the
NATOPS Pocket Checklist (PCL) and NATOPS. The student will
make calculations based on actual forecasted temperatures and
winds.

12. VT-86 Questions of the day. In addition to reciting the boldface items, OUI will generate a
scenario, using worst case fuel and weather, and describe in detail how to recover the aircraft
(type of approach, configuration, etc.).
