RADIO INSTRUMENTS
CHAPTER THREE
1.
Prior to the Event the Student Will:
a.
Prepare for this event in accordance with the Master Curriculum Guide, with special
emphasis on W-155 entry, exit, and airspace management.
b.
Review TACAN navigation and previously introduced emergency procedures.
2.
During the Event the Student Will:
a.
Wear a torso harness, Anti-G suit, mock Survival Vest, and gloves.
b.
Use the VT-86 T-2C IN-FLIGHT GUIDE.
c.
Bring and use as appropriate, current high and low altitude enroute, terminal, and
FLIP publications.
d.
Apply GENERAL procedures covered in the Radio Instruments Scenario.
e.
Continue honing crew coordination skills learned during RI events.
f.
Utilize the sequence: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate, Checklists, whenever priority
of these items is in question.
g.
Act as mission commander for the flight. Be aggressive. Drive the conduct of
the flight.
h.
Comply with callsign, local stereo route, clearance, radio communications
procedures, controlling agencies, and Special Use Airspace entry, operations, and exit
procedures.
i.
Provide headings and direction of turns to stay within W-155 airspace.
j.
Perform T-2C NATOPS Emergency Procedures in accordance with the instructions
for Emergency Procedures prescribed for Radio Instruments events.
WARNING AREA ENTRY PROCEDURES
Departure procedures from NPA will be conducted in accordance with ATC departure
instructions. Departure Control will eventually direct a handoff to SEABREEZE (the controlling
agency for W-155). This typically occurs between 10 to 20 DME from Navy Pensacola.
Handoff communications typically go as follows:
Departure Control: "ROKT 211 contact SEABREEZE 313.2" (button 15).
Student: "ROKT 211, SEABREEZE 313.2" (button 15).
Student: "SEABREEZE, ROKT 211 12 thousand, request area 1 and a discrete."
