CHAPTER THREE
RADIO INSTRUMENTS
ii.
If an alternate is required (they are always required in 2F101 RI events), the fuel
required to fly from the destination Initial Approach Fix (IAF) to the alternate
IAF at planned cruise altitude (a DIVERT).
iii.
Fuel required for one approach (at the destination or at the alternate).
iv.
Total of i, ii, and iii above.
v.
Reserve fuel: 10% of item iv or fuel for 20 minutes flight at 10,000 feet at
maximum endurance (450 pounds), whichever is greater.
vi.
Start and Taxi: 2F101 only: zero (T-2C is 370 pounds).
vii. Total required: total of items iv, v, and vi.
viii. Total useable fuel: 2F101 only: 4100 pounds (T-2C is 4700 pounds).
ix.
Spare fuel: (item viii fuel minus item vii fuel).
During the RI events, the simulator fuel system will be managed in accordance with the VT-86
In-Flight Guide checklist (fuel transfer...off during prestart checks. Fuel transfer...Tips during
3000-foot checks, etc). The transfer sequence will be Tips then Wings. Upon completion of Tip
fuel transfer (indicated by a decrease in fuselage fuel quantity), Wing fuel will be transferred.
Upon completion of Wing transfer (indicated by a decrease in indicated fuselage fuel quantity),
the fuel transfer switch will be turned off.
The fuel quantity indicator will be run down to determine total fuel quantity at the appropriate
times:
1.
In the line prior to engine start.
2.  After directing IP to transfer fuel to wings (OUI will announce fuel remaining in each wing
tank, i.e., "3 hundred left, 3 hundred right."
3.
Once wing transfer is complete, prior to directing IP to turn fuel transfer off.
4.
In the landing pattern, with wing fuel remaining (to calculate landing AOA).
MILITARY FLIGHT PLAN (DD 175)
The student will provide a copy of the DD 175 to the Simulator Instructor at the event briefing.
Procedures for completing a DD 175 are covered in detail in FLIP General Planning. However,
emphasis has proven necessary on certain items unique to the T-2C:
