CHAPTER TEN
BASIC FIGHTER MANEUVERS (BFM)
Figure 10-20 Direction of Pass Calls
"LEFT TO LEFT" is standard direction of pass call when both aircraft are abeam.
"RIGHT TO RIGHT" is the correct direction of pass call when the aircraft on the left side of
the section is acute (forward of the wing-line). "Right to right" call in this scenario will limit
"nose on" time during the merge.
1011. FIRST MOVE OPTIONS EXERCISE
The next building block in the BFM syllabus to initiate a 1V1 engagement from a neutral set-up
and maneuver post-merge. We will start with the decision-making process at the very beginning
of an engagement. When a fighter encounters a bogey in a high aspect merge (i.e., head-on
pass), it has two options for its first move. The first move options exercise will demonstrate the
two basic first move options in terms of the two possible "fight flows" and their associated game
plans.
