CHAPTER ONE
SNFO/SWSO VOICE COMMUNICATIONS
NOTE
Momentarily select the IDENT position on the transponder. No
verbal response is expected because the ident will be immediately
displayed on the controller's radarscope.
4.
When advised to "contact" a new controlling agency, acknowledge with "switching" and
repeat the specific frequency.
Example
CENTER:
"BUCK 710, contact Houston Center on 322.4"
SNFO/SWSO:
"BUCK 710, switching 322.4."
5.  If unable to contact the new agency on the frequency given, return to the previous agency
and report "negative contact." It is common to hear the term "no joy" used instead of "negative
contact." The transferring agent will ensure the next controller is listening or assign an alternate
frequency to reattempt contact.
Example
SNFO/SWSO:
"Houston Center, negative contact (or no joy) on
322.4."
CENTER:
"BUCK 710, try them on 312.4."
SNFO/SWSO:
"BUCK 710, switching 312.4."
6.
Always report leaving an altitude. It is not necessary to report reaching an altitude unless
this is requested of you.
Example
DEPARTURE:
"BUCK 711, climb and maintain flight level 210."
SNFO/SWSO:
"BUCK 711, leaving flight level 180 for flight
level 210."
7.
When making an initial check-in call while in a climb, you should acknowledge the altitude
passing and the altitude cleared to by the previous controller.
Example
You are passing 6000 for 9000:
SNFO/SWSO:
"Pensacola Departure, BUCK 711 passing 6000
for 9000."
8.
During a climb after having already checked into a controller and the controller instructs
you to climb to a new altitude (i.e. other than that issued in your clearance) you should only
acknowledge the new altitude.
